Please mark September 28 on your calendar as the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of St. John’s .  We need volunteers to put together a booklet, history, and power point pictures.

 

High School Youth are invited to participate in a ministry called Kick It to the Curb on August 18 and 19.  UCM hosts basketball games as a Christian outreach program in Buffalo .  While older kids are playing basketball, we will lead crafts and a Bible story on the sidelines.  Meet at church at 3:00 p.m. and return at 7:00 p.m.   Sign up on the youth bulletin board to participate.

St. John’s Preschool will be offering a new 3 day a week multi age (Mon., Wed., Fri.) afternoon class for 3 and 4 year olds starting in September.  (Existing 3 year old a.m./p.m. and 4 year old a.m. classes will continue unchanged.)  Call Maureen Roth (662-4747).

LIBRARY: New Look!  All the books, CDs, DVDs, and “check out” location have been rearranged to make it more functional.  Thanks to Lynda Gorline, Karen Forth, Donna Kois, Diane Scherer, Peggy Smith, and Shelly Szpara for their help.  Stop and take a book!

 

Starting in September the 4 Year Old Preschool will have their own class room.  They are looking for some toys, play sets, etc. to fill the room.  Any monetary donations would also be appreciated.  Please see Maureen Roth or Lynn Sipprell (662-4747).  Thank you.

 

If you would like your 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th Grader to take Holy Communion before he or she is comfirmed, check the Fellowship of Worship form.  Pastor Dennis will teach a First Communion Class for kids and parents on two Saturdays in the fall, if there is interest.

 

Softball results: August 4 won (11-1).  They are the Division II Champions with an 11 and 1 record.  The picnic is August 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wagner home.  Thank you for a great season.

 

High School EDGE meets each Sunday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. in the Youth Room.  EDGE is a time for getting to know others from our church, having fun, and growing in our faith.  Bring a friend or two!  Weather permitting we enjoy games outside - so wear your running shoes!

“Growing in Christ….Living the Word” is now in full swing.  If you really want to explore your Christianity and you want to challenge your faith, then please join our next study at 7:00 p.m. , Tuesday, August 19.  The book this study is using for the next five meetings is Lee Strobel’s “The Case for Christ”, which is a great read.  The next study is Chapter 5 “The Scientific Evidence.”  There are a few copies that can be found at the Welcome Center .  The study meets in Ed Duetsch’s office at 3085 Southwestern Blvd , 2nd Floor, Orchard Park .

 

June Meissner will train new Stephen Ministers starting in the fall.  Please check the FOW form.

 

The McMillen Family is moving to Colorado to be near family.  They need financial assistance to make this move.  If you’d like to help them, please put an amount in your offering envelope and mark it “McMillen Fund.”  Thank you for supporting this special family.

 

Rob Meissner will teach a course on Christian Financial Planning in the fall.

 

The Sunday School needs a few volunteers to prepare items for Sunday morning classes.  We have one person to shop, but we need others to get things set up.  Please check the FOW form.

 

The deadline for the September Newsletter is Mon., Aug. 11 at 10:00 a.m. and mailed the 22nd.

 

There is a Sunday School Teacher’s Meeting Wednesday, August 13 and a Board of Education Meeting on Wednesday, August 20.  Both are at 7:00 p.m.

 

Parenting Classes will be offered on Sunday mornings at 10:30 starting September 28.

 

Confirmation Classes begin on Thurs., September 4 with an orientation for parents and students at 6:30 p.m.   If you have a 7th or 8th grader, please come together to learn about the program.

 

There will be a Deacons Meeting on Monday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m.

 

Rally Day Weekend is September 6/7.  We will celebrate a new beginning of mission and ministry by hearing about God’s vision.  We also celebrate the start of Sunday School!
